Loretta Grosch Dewey, 99, of Largo, Fla., and formerly of Mendota died Jan. 27, 2009, in Largo, where she had resided since 2007. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in St. John's Lutheran Church, Mendota. Burial will be at Restland Cemetery, Mendota. Visitation is one hour prior to services at the church. Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota, is in charge of the arrangements. Mrs. Dewey was born May 4, 1909, in Mendota to Herman and Elizabeth (Kampf) Grosch. She married Milton Dewey on April 24, 1929. Following her graduation from Mendota High School, she entered the civil service and worked in Batavia for two years. While primarily working as a farm wife on the Dewey family centennial farm, she also was secretary of Ophir Township School District for several years, treasurer of Triumph Elevator, served on the Weisner Cemetery Board and was census taker for Triumph. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and Mendota Elks Lodge 1212. She is survived by two sons, Bruce Dewey of Indian Rocks Beach, Fla., and David (Jo Ann) Dewey of Bend, Ore.; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and four great-greatgrandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1983; one infant daughter, one brother and two sisters. Memorials may be directed to St. John's Lutheran Church.
