IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Lorraine
Moore
June 11, 1929 – January 25, 2024
Lorraine (Fritts) Moore, 94, peacefully passed away in her sleep Thursday, January 25, 2024, at Allure Healthcare of Mendota after a long battle with Dementia. As her journey ended here on earth, she arrived in Heaven to her long-awaited Eternal Home and is once again reunited with the love of her life, Warren Moore, aka Smiley.
Lorraine was born on June 11, 1929 in Sycamore, IL, as the baby sister of two older brothers and the only daughter to Alva and Ada (Blume) Fritts. Lorraine married her soulmate, Warren, on Sunday, October 22, 1950, being blessed with a loving and happy marriage for 51 years. Immediately following their wedding, the two moved to Mendota, IL, where they made their family home. Lorraine continued living in their family home for another 22 years following Warren's passing, welcoming into their home her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Warren afforded Lorraine the ultimate career as a homemaker, taking great pride in her family. Never having sisters or daughters, Lorraine was a true "tomboy" who was blessed with three scrappy, active boys. With Warren's help, Lorraine raised three God-Fearing, hard-working men. She taught them how to worship the Lord, play baseball, ride bicycles, fish and camp, and the importance of working hard for the things you want in life. Lorraine was exceptionally proud that each of her three sons earned the rank of Eagle Scout. She was always looking for the good in others, teaching her children and grandchildren not to "Hate" as it is too strong of a word.
After being diagnosed with Breast Cancer, Lorraine underwent treatment at the University of Wisconsin Hospital becoming the Hospital's first Breast Cancer Survivor to reach the 25-year milestone of being in remission, thus, beating Breast Cancer!
She served as the Chairman on the First Baptist Church Board of Education; additionally, being very active within her church, Lorraine taught Sunday School and served on several different womens circles. Later in life, Lorraine studied Biblical Theology to become a licensed Lay Minister alongside Warren. Warren and Lorraine loved to travel and over their lifetime together, they traveled throughout the lower 48 states. Being a farm girl at heart, as well as a true "tomboy", she loved to work on machines, engines, and equipment alongside Warren and her sons, not to mention often found under the hood of a vehicle working beside her grandsons. Lorraine enjoyed gardening, animals, and plants and she adored farming side-by-side Warren for 19 years.
Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents, Alva and Ada Fritts, both brothers, Russell and Clarence Fritts, and her husband, Warren. She is survived by her three sons, Randy (Karen) Moore, Sr. of Lakeland, FL, Rodney Moore of Richland, IN, Raleigh (Tina) Moore of Mendota, IL, six grandchildren TamiLynn (Brett) Zinke of Lakeland, FL, Lori (Chris) Winstead of Lakeland, FL, Ryan (Ciara) Moore of Cherry, IL, Randy (Amanda) Moore, Jr. of Lakeland, FL, Amy Moore of Mendota, IL, Hunter Moore of N. Utica, IL, nine great-grandchildren, nephews, and one niece.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, February 14, 2024 beginning at 10:00 a.m. at the Merritt Funeral Home in Mendota, IL, with her funeral service immediately following at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Glen Foster officiating. Interment will take place at Restland Cemetery, Mendota, IL following the service.
In lieu of flowers, Lorraine and her family have designated the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, a charity close to her heart, where donations may be made as an expression of sympathy.
