Lotta May Lewis, 87, of Mendota died Feb. 4, 2011, in her home. Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 8 in First United Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dale Dykstra officiating. Burial will be in Welsh Pioneer Cemetery, Iowa City, Iowa. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Monday in Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota. Mrs. Lewis was born Feb. 11, 1923, in Braddyville, Iowa, to Jay and Irene (Burwell) Jamison. She married George (Ted) Lewis on July 31, 1943, in East Lansing, Mich. She was an element a r y teacher at Lincoln Grade School, Mendota and Dimmick Grade School. She was a member of First Untied Presbyterian Church, serving as a church Elder and a member of Kings Daughters. She also was a member of the Federated Women's Club and Christian Women's Club. She also served on the Canteen Board and was a volunteer for Mendota Museum and Historical Society Survivors include one son, T.J. (Karen) Lewis of Ottawa; one daughter, Connie (Ron) Western of Columbus, Mich.; four grandchildren, Adam, Tyler, Grant and Kendall Lewis; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Jim (Betty) Jamison of Mendota and Bud (Phyllis) Jamison of Clarinda, Iowa; and a sister, Janis (R.E.) Jensen of Rogers, Ark. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1999. Memorials may be directed to First United Presbyterian Church or the Alzheimer's Association.
