Lynn Louise (Dunlap) Matheis died Monday evening Dec. 23, 2024 at Allure Care Nursing Home, Mendota, in OSF Hospice Care and further compromised by Covia-I9 in early December. She was born Oct. 22, 1954 at Shenandoah, Iowa, to Dan L. and Ruth (Ashelford) Dunlap, who soon thereafter moved to LaSalle County, Illinois, and to Mendota in 1963.

Lynn was confirmed in St. John's Lutheran Church, Mendota, and she was a graduate of Mendota High School in 1972 where she was named an Illinois State Scholar. She played clarinet in Mendota school bands and Augustana College, Rock Island, IL, from which she was graduated in 1976 with a major in geology. She loved music and singing all her life. Lynn was a voracious reader all her life. She also enjoyed science fiction.

Lynn married Michael V. Matheis of Chicago, IL, August 4, 1979 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Mendota. They lived in the Chicago suburbs and worked for a model railroad equipment company and distributor, then lived in Mendota the past twenty years. Michael V. Matheis died in 2011 in Mendota.. They had no children.. They both enjoyed the card game of Magic The Gathering.

Lynn Matheis is survived by her mother, Ruth L. Dunlap of Mendota and sisters Mary L. Orwig of Milan, II, Robin L. Austin of Earlville IL, and Dawn L. Henning of Bedford Texas, and nieces Cassandra Orwig and Emily Henning and nephew Adam Henning, and four cousins. Horner-Merritt Funeral Home is assisting with cremation.

No service will be held. There will be a private graveside service at a later date..
