Lynn C. Truckenbrod, 73, of rural Mendota died Jan. 10, 2010, in Mendota Lutheran Home. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota, with the Rev. Spencer Lawrence officiating. Burial will be at Restland Cemetery, Mendota. Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at Merritt Funeral Home. Mr. Truckenbrod was born March 24, 1936, in Mendota to Roland W. and Helen E. (Bley) Truckenbrod. He married Diane Laatz on Oct. 4, 1959, in Ottawa. He attended Mendota schools, graduating from Mendota High School in 1954. He graduated in 1958 from University of Illinois College of Agriculture and was a member of the Farmhouse Fraternity. He returned to the family farm where he raised cattle and grain with his father and with his son until his retirement. He was a member of First United Presbyterian Church, La Salle County Farm Bureau and a 50-year member of the Elks. During his youth he played saxophone in The City Slickers band. He also showed award-winning shorthorn cattle as a member of Future Farmers of America. As an adult he served in the U.S. Army Reserves, earned a private pilot's license, served on the Mendota High School Board of Education, was a member of the Jaycees, Optimists, Experimental Aircraft Association and other organizations. He is survived by his wife; one son, Mitchell Truckenbrod of Mendota; two daughters, Dr. Melinda (Jerry Ellerbrock) Truckenbrod of La Salle and Allison (Paul) Beck of Princeton; one granddaughter, Alicia; one grandson, Alex; one sister, Joan (Ron) Hromadka of Evanston; and a special family friend, Dr. Julia Koryshkova of Russia. He was preceded in death by his parents. Memorials may be directed to the American Diabetes Association or Operation Smile.
