Mahrie (Britt) Hanson, 83, of Bisbee, Ariz., formerly of Mendota, died Oct. 7, 2011, in Bisbee. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Friday in St. John's Lutheran Church, Mendota, with the Rev. Dale Peterson officiating. Burial will be at Restland Cemetery, Mendota. There will be no visitation. Arrangements were provided by Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota. She was born Nov. 18, 1927, in Lamar, Miss., to Chester and Minnie (Belle) Britt. She married Warren Hanson in 1948. She graduated from Hattiesburg High School in Mississippi and worked briefly as a reporter before joining Delta Airlines as a stewardess. She and her husband lived in Mendota before permanently retiring to Green Valley, Ariz., in 2000. Mahrie became a real estate agent, eventually starting Hanson Realty. She participated in Mendota Community Theater, bridge clubs, Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts and many charities. She and her husband were active in St. John's Lutheran Church in Mendota and Valley Presbyterian Church in Green Valley, Ariz. She wrote many funny stories and eventually published a book of them about her time as a Delta stewardess and her family life. Mahrie is survived by two sons, Peter Hanson of Saugatuck, Mich., and Britt Hanson of Bisbee; one daughter, Toni Hanson of Saugatuck; six grandchildren, Chris Rhodes, Ben Rhodes, Greta Hanson Joynes, David Hanson, Emma Hanson and Kameron Hanson; and two great-grandchildren, Nolan and Carter Rhodes. She was preceded in death by her husband on Nov. 13, 2009.
