Marcy Mills, 93, of Mendota died at 7:10 p.m. on Sunday, October 30, 2016 at Mendota Lutheran Home.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 5, 2016 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Mendota, with Rev. Janet Lepp officiating. Burial will take place at Restland Cemetery with Military Honors by Mendota VFW Post 4079. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. til time of services in the church. Merritt Funeral Home handled arrangements.
Marcy was born March 25, 1923 in Raymond, Minnesota, the 9 th child of Ben and Augusta Rossman Lobbins. She moved to the Mendota area in 1938, and graduated from Mendota High School in 1941.
Marcy served in the U.S. Navy WAVES (Women Accepted for Voluntary Emergency Services) for almost 3 years, from May 17, 1943 to April 4, 1946. She married Wendell Mills on June 15, 1947 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Mendota. In 1974, Marcy received a Bachelor's Degree in Education from Northern Illinois University in Dekalb. She enjoyed a long career teaching elementary-aged students in Amboy School District, and retired in 1994 after 20 years.
She was very active in her community and was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority, IRTA (Illinois Retired Teacher Association), MASS (Mendota Senior Services): Rules of the Road for seniors for 20 years, various fundraising events, newsletter, fair security, Mendota Hospital Auxiliary (Meals on Wheels), Moose Club of Mendota (bloodmobile), Lion's EyeCare group (eyeglass donations including trip to Guanajuato GTO, Mexico) and a volunteer at St. John's Lutheran Church, where she was an usher, helped with communion, a reader, and volunteered with PADS homeless shelter.
Other hobbies include her extensive travels in Europe and all around the United States, crocheting, playing cards/bridge and euchre.
In June of 2013, she moved into Mendota Lutheran Home and enjoyed her final years there amongst friends she has known throughout the years in the Mendota area.
Surviving are three children, Brad Mills of LaMoille, Mark Mills of Peru, and Peggy Mills of Ottawa; five grandchildren, Wendy (Jay) Klatt, Dawn (Rob) McCollom, Jodell Jarman, Greg (Serene) Lockas and Jeremy Lockas, seven great-grandchildren and one sister, Shirley (Charlie) Roloff of Mendota.
She was preceded in death by her eldest son, Greg Mills, whom died in Vietnam on March 25, 1969, four brothers and six sisters.
Memorials may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church or Mendota Area Senior Services.
