Obituary

Marilyn Elaine Goetz, 90, of La Moille, died peacefully on August 5, 2019, at Heritage Health, Mendota.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church of Clarion, La Moille, with Pastor Kevin Weeks and Pastor Jeff Schlesinger officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m., Wednesday at Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota, and also one hour prior to the service at the church.

Marilyn was born January 10, 1929, in La Moille to Elmer and Irene (Portzen) Ross. She married Myron Goetz on September 1, 1957, at the First Baptist Church of La Moille.

Marilyn graduated from La Moille High School and Illinois State University with a degree in home economics. She spent her career teaching at El Paso High School, Elgin Junior High School, La Moille High School, and Cherry Grade School. She was a member of the La Moille Community School District board for twelve years and also a member of Delta Kappa Gamma.

Marilyn was very involved in her church, singing in and leading the choir, teaching Sunday School and Bible school, and serving on various committees. Her other joys were gardening, cooking, baking, entertaining, attending musical events, traveling, geneology, horses, and spending time with family. She also enjoyed custom sewing and decorating cakes for friends, family, and people in the community.

Marilyn is survived by her husband, Myron; two daughters, Sarah of Peru and Susan of La Moille; two brothers, Eldon Ross of La Moille and Ronald (Jessie) Ross of Princeton; sister-in-law, Margaret Ross of Mendota, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Darwin Ross, sister-in-law Marilyn Ross, sister-in-law Marian Hoffman, and two nephews, Scott Ross and Beryl Ross.

Memorials may be directed to Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church or the donor's choice.
