Marion Buffington, 85, of Mendota died Nov. 21, 2009, in Mendota Community Hospital. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota, with the Rev. Michael Morrell officiating. Burial will be at Restland Cemetery, Mendota. Visitation is 4-7 p.m. today in Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota. She was born May 28, 1924, in La Salle to Charles B. and Urith (Orr) Smith. She married Clyde T. Buffington on Dec. 31, 1955, in the Congregational Church, La Salle. She attended La Salle- Peru Township High School and Brown's Business College, completing a secretarial course. She had been a receptionist and switchboard operator at the Daily NewsTribune. She resided in Mendota during her marriage where she was a mother and homemaker. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Mendota. In later years she worked as a playground supervisor at Blackstone School in Mendota. She is survived by her husband; one daughter, Deborah (Anthony) Goy of Mendota; one son, Thomas (Beth) Buffington of Naperville; three grandchildren, Evan (Melissa Camacho) Goy of Mendota, Emily Buffington of Naperville and Corinne Buffington of Naperville; one great-grandson; one niece and great- and great-great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother. Memorials may be directed to First United Methodist Church or Mendota Lutheran Home.
