Marjorie "Marge" A. Sondgeroth 91, of Mendota, passed away Friday, June 11, 2021 at St. Anthony's Medical Center, Rockford.
Mass of Christian burial will be held at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Peterstown at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday June 17, 2021 with Father Peter Pilon officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday from 9:30-11:00 a.m. at the Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota.
Marge was born February 10, 1930 in Mendota to Albert and Helena (Becker) Sondgeroth.
Marge was raised on the family farm and was the oldest of 3 children. She helped raise and acted as the "2nd mother" to Ray and Bernice Corrigan's 5 children: Tom (Jo Ann) Corrigan of Mendota, Ted (Sara) Corrigan of Decatur, Dennis (Bonnie) Corrigan of East Peoria, Connie (Leo) Quick and Julie (Tim) Setchell both of Mendota. She was very "grandmotherly" to their 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She is survived by her sister Doris Brooks; sister in law Juanita and many nieces and nephews.
She was employed by the Mendota Sport Shop for over 30 years. Marge was also known for her excellent baking skills. Her family especially loved her cinnamon rolls that made each Christmas morning brunch so special.
Marge was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Art and her grandson Gabriel Corrigan.
Memorials may be directed to Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church or Holy Cross Church, Mendota.
