Mark R. Feik, 53, of Peru, formerly from LaMoille, died the evening of May 1, 2016, in St. Francis Hospital, Peoria, from injuries sustained in an apartment fire.
He meant the world to many. He was a son, a brother, a brother-in-law, and uncle and friend. His family and friends are left empty in their grief, yet consoled with the endurance of Mark's love and the sympathy and prayers from so many people.
The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota, with the Rev. Patrick Fixsen officiating. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery in LaMoille Township.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home.
Mark was born on July 3, 1962, in Mendota to Richard and Barbara (Diehl) Feik. Those who survive are his mother Barbara Feik and her companion, Jerry Hardin of LaMoille; his sister, Heidi (Dan) Feik Dlubac of Astoria, Ore.; his sister Wendy Feik (Gary) Pinkerton, and their son Aaron Pinkerton, of Champaign; his aunt, Jane Dilbeck of Mendota; and his dear friend, Eugenia Conchy Calderon of Peru.
An avid golfer, Mark loved to play courses throughout Illinois and made and repaired golf equipment in his spare time. Mark was also a hopeful and optimistic Cubs fan. (Let's win it all for him this year, boys!) A livestock man from his birth, Mark raised and showed cattle and hogs in his 4-H days and followed livestock show results all his life. A graduate of Princeton High School, Mark received his associate's degree from Black Hawk College-East and attended Southern Illinois University in Carbondale.
Mark worked for a variety of golf courses and companies, as well as in livestock and manufacturing positions. He most recently worked for J.C. Whitney in Peru.
Mark was preceded by his father, Richard "Duke" Feik and his grandparents, Melvin and Doris Feik and William and Anne Diehl.
