Obituary

Marlin W. Hoelzer, 85 of Oswego formerly of Dimmick Twp. passed away March 13, 2019 at Rush Copley Medical Center, Aurora.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 11:00 a.m., at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Compton with Rev. Jeff Schlesinger officiating. Burial will at Troy Grove Cemetery, Troy Grove with military rites by Mendota VFW Post 4079. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5-8 p.m. at the Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota
Marlin was born March 28, 1933 in Mendota to Wilbur and Arlene (Kaiser) Hoelzer. He married Joyce Grubar June 12, 1955 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Utica.
He was a 1950 graduate of Mendota High School. He was in the United States Army and served in Korea. He farmed his entire life and worked at Manley Bros. for 10 years. He was a Troy Grove Grange member for 65 years and was a former member of Mendota Moose Lodge. He loved tractor pull competitions and was a NTPA champion in 1971.
He is survived by his wife Joyce of Oswego; his son Steven (Maggie) Hoelzer of Earlville; four daughters Ruth (Carl) Wolfe of Carol Stream, Jolene (David) Martinec of West Chicago, Vickie (Anthony) Donofrio of Prospect, KY, and Dawn Shenberg of Elgin; 13 grandchildren Kyle Wolfe, Kristin Bryce Wolfe, Kara Wolfe, Kathryn Martinec, Allison Martinec, Meghan Shenberg, Alexander Hoelzer, Andrew Martinec, Connor Shenberg, Andrea Donofrio, Marissa Donofrio, Erin Chrusciel and Michael Chrusciel;  three sisters Dolores (Robert) Barnett of LaSalle, Teresa (Michael) Yoccum of Lafayette, IN, and Velda (Richard) Reed of Shelbyville; brother Eldon Hoelzer of Troy Grove; brother in law Frank John (Judy) Grubar; two sister in laws Janice (George) Moriarity and Joann (Edward) Olson and many beloved nieces and nephews.
He was preceded by his parents, one sister in law Patricia, a niece Beth and a nephew Ken.
Memorials may be directed the the Mendota Food Pantry of Veterans Administration.
