Martin C. Spitz, 80, of Granville and formerly of Mendota died Aug. 21, 2016, in St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria.
A memorial Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in Holy Cross Church, Mendota.
There will be no visitation. Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota provided the arrangements.
Martin was born May 10, 1936, to Martin and Elizabeth (Kratz) Spitz. He married Donna Cheval on May 13, 2005.
He was a member of Holy Cross Church. He owned and operated Spitz Excavating in Mendota. He was a longtime member of Mendota Moose Lodge 714 and governor of the lodge in 1997. He later joined Ottawa Moose Lodge 960. He received the Pilgrim Degree of Merit, was a member of the Illinois NW Council of Higher Degrees and Western Illinois Legion 112.
He is survived by his wife; one son; two stepsons; three grandchildren; one stepgranddaughter; three great-grandchildren; one brother, Delbert Spitz of Mendota; four sisters, Catherine Taylor and Rita (Dave) Jones, both of Mendota, and Florence (Charles) Kuebel and Carlene (Roland) Schuler, both of Sublette; nieces and nephews; and his pets, Peanut and Joey.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Tyler, two sisters and two brothers.
Memorials in his memory may be directed to the family.
