Marvin (Marv) Buchanan, 65, of Mendota passed away unexpectedly on June 19, 2021 at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center in Rockford.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 26, 2021 at the Merritt Funeral Home in Mendota, with Chaplain Kent Terry officiating. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. on Friday, June 25, 2021 at the Merritt Funeral Home. Cremation rites have been accorded.
Marv was born on June 3, 1956 in Mendota to Herbert and Shelby (Ellis) Buchanan. He attended grade school in Mendota, and was in the class of 1975 at Mendota High School. He graduated from Lincoln Barber College, and maintained an active Barber License. He'd worked at Consolidated Freight, before spending the next 30 years at H & H Builders in Mendota, until his early retirement in 2009.
Marv always said he'd "won the lottery" when he married his wife Connie Spriet in Mendota on August 14, 1993. Together they spent the next 28 years happily married and remained the best of friends.
Marv loved to cook and took great pride in preparing his family's favorites. He was happiest doing anything with, or for, his family, and never missed an opportunity to tell them how much he loved them, and how proud he was to have them in his life.
He is survived by his wife Connie, of Mendota; his daughter Jen Buchanan of Aurora Ohio; his step daughter Jamie Danley, of Mendota; his brothers Herb (Sue) Buchanan, and Scott (Tami), both of Mendota and his eight grandchildren Anthony Buchanan, Lexi Price, Ashton Price, Adriana Buchanan, Kayden Danley, Abel Buchanan, Kaylynn and Dylan Reed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his son Tyler on March 10, 2018.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family.
