Marvin Smith, 85, of Mendota died May 29, 2009, in Hennepin County Medical Center, Minneapolis, Minn. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Merritt Funeral Home with the Rev. James Rude officiating. Burial will be at Restland Cemetery, Mendota. Visitation is 5-7 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home. Mr. Smith was born Aug. 26, 1923, in Rogersville, Mo., to Carl and Ida (Swearingen) Smith. He married Margaret Huss on Oct. 27, 1944, in Joplin, Mo. He was employed by Wayside Press in Mendota for 36 years prior to retirement. He attended the Church of Christ in Princeton. He is survived by his son, Bruce Smith of Mendota; one daughter, Claudia Carstens Smith of Minneapolis; and one granddaughter, Emily Smith Earley. He was preceded in death by his wife on July 20, 1995; one sister and one brother. Memorials may be directed to Mendota Sportsmens Club or Feed the Children program.
