Mary Katherine Bettner, 71, of Paw Paw died April 15, 2010, in Rockford Memorial Hospital. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Immanuel Lutheran Church , Compton. The Rev. Jamie Wallace will officiate. Burial will be at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Monday in Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota. She was born Feb. 3, 1939, in Paw Paw to Edward and Louise (Finn) Engelhardt. She married Richard Bettner on Dec. 8, 1956. Mrs. Bettner was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Compton. She graduated in 1956 from Paw Paw High School. She attended Swedish American School of Nursing in Rockford. She was a foster parent to many children and enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren. She also enjoyed sewing and mending outfits for her grandchildren. Survivors are her husband, Richard of Paw Paw; seven sons, Dwight of Jesup, Ga., Doug (Tina) of Paw Paw, David (Lisa) of Princeton, Duane of Salt Springs, Fla., Jeffrey of Fort Campbell, Ky., Jakob of Mendota and Mike Rauh of Paw Paw; one daughter, Dawn (Jason) Foster of Paw Paw; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one sister, Velma Nix of Waterman; one niece, Sharon Berg; and one nephew, James Nix. She was preceded in death by her parents. Memorials may be directed to the donor's choice.
