Michael (Mike) C. Mathieu, Normal, IL, 75 passed away on October 2, 2010 at 5:45 AM at his home surrounded by his family.His visitation will be Wednesday, October 6 th at Merritt's Funeral Home in Mendota, IL from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. There will be a memorial service at 7:00 PM at the funeral home with Rev. Paul Meismer and Rev. Michael Monclova officiating. There will be a private burial at Troy Grove, IL at a later date.He was born in Peru, IL on January 2, 1935 the son of Murray and Melva (Amsler) Mathieu. He married Ardeth Thompson July 14, 1956 in St. Patrick's Catholic Church, LaSalle, Il. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Ardeth Mathieu of Normal, IL. Four children Brenda (Rod) Weigelmann, Bloomington, IL, Bill (Nancy) Mathieu, Amboy, IL, Jane (Greg) Toon, Duluth, MN and Susan (Don) Anderson, Normal, IL. Eight grandchildren Cora Wujek, Dennis Wilson, Michael Mathieu, Brock Weigelmann, Brice Weigelmann, Brent Weigelmann, Holly Anderson and Ben Anderson and four great grandchildren. Mike is survived by four sisters Madeline (L Ray) Ecalbarger of Ferndale, WA., Margie (Carl) Frederickson, M.D. of LaPointe, WI., Marcia (Vince) Walters of Peru, Il.  and Mary Kay (Mark) Grant of Athens, Il.. Mike was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Marian MacDiarmid. Mike proudly served in the U.S. Navy on the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Tarawa from 1952 to 1956. After the service Mike worked at sand plants in Troy Grove, Manito, and Saltville, Virginia. Mike was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bloomington, IL. Mike enjoyed life and never met a stranger. He enjoyed spending time with family and following the activities of his grandchildren through the years. He loved to fish and was always planning a fishing trip to Minnesota or Canada. Mike was always busy and his family and friends all have various keepsakes that Mike made in his retirement. The family would like to thank Advocate Hospice and the Community Cancer Center, especially Dr. Migas for the care and support provided to Mike.
