Muriel E. Opsal, 89, of Mendota died June 20, 2008, in her residence. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota, with the Rev. Michael Morrell officiating. Burial will be at Restland Cemetery, Mendota. Visitation is one hour prior to services Tuesday in the funeral home. She was born March 15, 1919, in Troy Grove to Charles E. and Carrie (Smith) Cromwell. She married Sam Opsal on Sept. 27, 1949, in Mendota. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Mendota. She and her husband owned and operated Sam's Steakhouse in Mendota from 1950 to 1975. She also was employed by Heritage Manor Nursing Home for many years. She is survived by nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sam, on Jan. 7, 1988; and 10 brothers and sisters.Memorials may be directed to First United Methodist Church or Illinois Valley Hospice.
