Obituary

Nancy C. (Roemmich) Williams, 66, of New Lenox, formerly of Sublette, died Dec. 15, 2009, in her home after battling breast cancer for several years. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in First United Methodist Church, Mendota, with the Rev. Michael Morrell officiating. Cremation rites will be accorded. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until time of services Saturday in the church. Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota, provided arrangements. She was born April 11, 1943, in Sublette to Ralph and Ethel (Richards) Roemmich. She married Michael Williams on April 13, 1967, in Park Forest. In her youth, she played in a local accordion band and was a Mendota Sweet Corn Festival runner-up. She graduated from Amboy High School and attended North Central College before graduating from Iowa State University with a bachelor's degree in elementary education. She taught in Mendota at Northbrook School before moving to Park Forest. She also lived in Country Club Hills where she was a teacher before settling in New Lenox. She retired from teaching and worked as a children's librarian at Grande Prairie Public Library in Hazel Crest for several years. Survivors are her husband; two daughters, Denise (Tip) Coffin of Bethesda, Md., and Melissa (Kenneth) Johnson of Portland, Ore.; one son, Brian Michael (Lauren) Williams of Littleton, Colo.; four grandchildren, Sadie and Hannah Coffin and Kieran and Rhys Johnson; her father, Ralph Roemmich of Sublette; one brother, Richard (Bernadine) Roemmich of Sublette; nieces, aunts and cousins. She was preceded in death by her mother and one sister, Marilyn Roemmich. Memorials may be directed to Breast Cancer Research Foundation. A dedicated page can be found here:
