Nikki (Stokes) Shoemaker, 65, of Rockford, formerly of Mendota died July 12, 2009, in her Rockford residence. Services will be at noon Thursday in Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota, with the Rev. Michael Morrell officiating. Burial will be at Restland Cemetery, Mendota. Visitation is one hour prior to services Thursday in the funeral home. She was born Aug. 20, 1943, in Mendota to Raymond and Elayne (Frost) Stokes. She was a 1961 graduate of Mendota High School and was employed for many years at Rockford Memorial Hospital and Swedish American Hospital in Rockford in the medical staff offices. She is survived by two sons, Brad (Toni) Bennehoff and Brian (Kim) Bennehoff, both of Rockford; and two grandchildren, Jessica and Brandon. She was preceded in death by her parents and special friend, Jim Martin. Memorials may be directed to the family for a memorial to be established later.
