Norman J. Dewey, 85, of Mendota died March 12, 2016, in Mendota Lutheran Home.
A Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Holy Cross Church, Mendota, with the Rev. Bo Schmitt officiating. Burial will take place at St. John's Catholic Cemetery in Jackson, Mich.
Visitation will be 9-10:30a.m. Tuesday in Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota. Norman was born Dec. 8, 1930, in Mendota to Roy R. and Stella (Widmer) Dewey. He married Joan Tierney who preceded him in death. He later married Lola Edwards Hamann in 1999 in First United Methodist Church, Mendota.
He was a 1948 graduate of Mendota High School and a 1953 graduate of the University of Illinois with a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering. He was a registered professional engineer with the State of Michigan and employed by Consumers Power Co. in Michigan for 36 years until retiring Jan. 1, 1990. He wrote a design guide book on how to set proactive relays for electric transmission system after his retirement.
He was a former member of Queen of the Miraculous Medal Church in Jackson, Mich., and later Holy Cross Church, Mendota.
He is survived by his wife, Lola of Mendota; one son, John M. (Theresa) Dewey of Akron, Ohio; four stepchildren, Melody (Steve) Munson of Sterling, Melissa (Ronnie) Fetzer of Arlington, Ill., Marcia (Dennis) Swearinger of Marina Del Ray, Calif., and Mitchell (Annette) Hamann of Coal City; 10 stepgrandchildren, five stepgreat-grandchildren.
