Norman Howard Fassig, 85, of Mendota, IL passed away at home July 29, 2023.

He was born June 17, 1938 to Milton and Marjorie (Beiser) in West Brooklyn, IL. He met the love his life Joyce Hopkins in high school and they married October 2, 1960 at First Methodist Church, Mendota.

Norm began a sixty year career of farming with dairy cattle and sheep before purchasing family ground south of West Brooklyn. For four decades Norm raised hogs farrow to finish before retiring in 2019. He was active in the community as a trustee with the West Brooklyn Fire Department & Township Board, member of Mendota #289 School Board, Mendota Elks Lodge and Compton Immanuel Lutheran Church council member, Lee County Pork Producers and a lifelong member of Illinois Farm Bureau. Well into retirement Norm continued to be the best 'hired man' a farm could have and could be seen with his walking stick on his daily trek around Mendota after coffee.

Norm is survived by his wife of 62 years, Joyce, and children Tamera (Glen) Fagerman of Mendota, Michael (Toni Klein) of West Brooklyn, Mathew of Sterling, grandchildren, Erik Fagerman of Spring Valley (friend-Rosario Madrigal and her daughter Inocencia), Conrad (Katie) Fassig of Lincoln, Erin (Kevin) Schmidt of Sublette, Kristen Fagerman of Rockford, great-grandchildren- Bradley, Mayzie and Molly Schmidt and Alden Fassig and his brother Lynn (Lynne) Fassig of Garland, TX.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his youngest daughter Sara Lynne in 2019 and his brothers John (Betty) Fassig and Duane (Peggy) Fassig.

Visitation will be at 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday, August 2, 2023 at Merritt's Funeral Home, Mendota. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. on Thursday August 3, 2023 at Immanuel Lutheran Church of Compton by Rev. Andrew Kayes of Paynes Point. Burial will be at Restland Cemetery, Mendota following services.

Memorials may be given to Immanuel Lutheran Church of Compton or St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
