Norman Addison Small, 74, of Waltham Township died Dec. 21, 2008, in his residence. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Waltham Presbyterian Church with the Revs. Ellsworth Young and Roy Backus officiating. Burial will be at Waltham Cemetery. Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Friday in Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota. Mr. Small was born Aug. 12, 1934, in La Salle to Addison and Evelyn (Yates) Small. He married Janet Towne on Sept. 4, 1954. There were named the conservation family of the year in 1982. He farmed in Waltham Township his entire life. He was a member of Waltham Presbyterian Church, the Masonic Lodge and served on the Waltham Township board for 27 years. He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Janet (Marc) Delaney of Dimmick Township and Peggy (Dale) Geiger of Wallace Township; two sons, Gary (Martha) Small of Ophir Township and Tom (Barb) Small of Dimmick Township; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; eight stepgreat-grandchildren; and one sister, Beverly (Dick) Shouer of Freeport. He was preceded in death by his parents and one grandson. Memorials may be directed to Public Action to Deliver Shelter or Illinois Valley Food Pantry.
