Obituary

Paul L. Henry Sr., 80, of Mendota died Jan. 14, 2011, in Illinois Valley Community Hospital, Peru. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in First United Methodist Church, Mendota. The Rev. Michael Morrell will officiate. Burial will be at Restland Cemetery, Mendota. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Monday in the church. Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota is handling arrangements. Mr. Henry was born July 3, 1930, in Milan, Mo., to John and Nellie (Chapman) Henry. He married Audrey Jane Bausell on July 29, 1948, in Milan, Mo. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and was active in many church activities. He was a member of Mendota Masonic Lodge and Mendota Golf Club. He was a gun enthusiast and enjoyed trap shooting. He also enjoyed restoring antique cars. He was an engineer with Burlington Northern Railroad for 40 years before retirement. For several years he was a car salesman for Schimmer Inc. in Mendota. Survivors are four sons, Paul "Sonny" (Sharon) Jr. of Mendota, Orville Henry of Tennessee, James Henry of Dayton and David (Janet) Henry of Mendota; 14 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; one sister, Eileen Dancy of La Salle; and special friend, Shirley Seng of Mendota. He was preceded in death by his wife on Jan. 23, 2003; and two brothers, Elmer and Orville Henry. Memorials may be directed to First United Methodist Church.
