Leatha Pearl Palmatier, 90, of Mendota passed away at 8:05 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 28, 2010, in Mendota Lutheran Home. A celebration of life service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota, followed by a graveside service at Restland Cemetery, Mendota. Visitation is 4:30-8 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home. Pearl was born Feb. 3, 1920, in Cumberland City, Ky., to Porter and Maude Glidewell. She married Clarence Gilbert Palmatier on July 26, 1942, in Aurora. She enjoyed her family, 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She loved quilting, word search puzzles, playing cards, cooking and sewing. She also enjoyed attending worship services at First Baptist Church in La Salle with all of her church friends and singing hymns. Her favorite food was fried chicken. She is survived by five children, Marie (Wayne) Kurz of Ashton; Judy (Jim) Kessinger of Avon, S.D., Sharon (Ken) Kessinger of Mendota, Brenda Monkemeyer of Mendota and Don (Elaine) Palmatier of Bloomington. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Gilbert Palmatier in 2004, three sisters and four brothers. Memorials may be directed to the Horizon House or First Baptist Church of LaSalle.
