Phyllis F. Hitchins, 92, of Mendota, passed away July 25, 2023 at Allure of Mendota.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 31, 2023 at Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota with Rev. Mary Bohall officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Private interment will be at Restland Cemetery.

Phyllis was born November 8, 1930 in Ransom, Illinois to Russell and Edna (Tomason) Anderson. She was a graduate of LaMoille High School. She married Harold Hitchins on November 8, 1951.

She loved playing cards and became a member of the "Rural Housewives Card Club". She was also a member of the Mendota Golf Auxiliary where she became an avid bridge player and St. John's Lutheran Church, Mendota where she participated in a church circle. She worked worked in the gift shop for the Mendota Hospital Auxiliary. She doted on her grandchildren. She also enjoyed being an election judge. Phyllis and her husband Harold loved to "winter" in Florida. They also traveled frequently to Las Vegas and Tunica, Mississippi.

Phyllis is survived by her daughter Patti Setchell of Mendota; two sons Tom Hitchins of Belmont, Wisconsin and John (Kris) Hitchins of Plainfield and her sister Mary Lou Erbes formerly of Mendota. She was blessed to have 8 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Harold in 2012, one sister Wilma Richards and four brothers Morris, Robert, Donald and Gary.
