Randy B. Morel, 71, of Mendota passed away Sept. 1, 2016, in Rockford Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota, with the Rev. Kent Svendsen officiating. Burial will be at Lutheran Cemetery with military rites by Mendota VFW Council 4079.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.

Randy was born Sept. 25, 1944, in Aurora to Gene and Mary (Clever) Morel.

He worked for Burlington Northern and Union Pacific railroads for over 40 years before retiring. He served in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of Mendota Golf Club, Mendota VFW Post 4079 and Mendota Elks Lodge 1212. He was an avid golfer, enjoyed fishing and hunting, spending time with family and telling jokes. He was a Chicago Bears, Chicago Cubs and Chicago Blackhawks fan.

He is survived by his son, John (Becky) Morel of Sandwich; three daughters, Kathy (Steve) Reppin of Mendota, Debbie (Joe) Kelly of Dixon and Billie (Robert) Bekker of Marseilles; significant other Connie Serrano of Mendota; 14 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; one brother, Rick (Diane) Morel of Sheridan; and three sisters, Lori (David) Bennett of Marseilles, Pam Higgins of Rock Island and Cheryl (Joe) Higgins of Montgomery.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Gary.
