Raymond H. Edgcomb, 82, of Troy Grove died May 18, 2009, in his Troy Grove residence. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota, with the Rev. Michael Morrell officiating. Burial will be at Troy Grove Cemetery with military rites by VFW Post 4079. Visitation is one hour prior to services Friday at the funeral home. Mr. Edgcomb was born July 28, 1926, in Decatur to Raymond and Virginia (Williams) Edgcomb. He married Mabel Kidd on Jan. 13, 1947, in Troy Grove. He was employed by Conco Inc. for 40 years, where he was supervisor for the shipping and receiving department. He was later employed by Moline Consumers as a truck driver at the Troy Grove stone quarry. Prior to his retirement he spent 10 years employed by Rick Wujek Trucking. He served in World War II with the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theater of Operations, with the invasion force fighting in the Philippines and also theaters of battle in New Caledonia and New Guinea. He was partof the occupation force in Japan. He was a member of the American Legion for 60 years and for 25 years served with the Troy Grove Rural Fire Department as a lieutenant. He is survived by two sons, Anthony (Melissa) Edgcomb of Gilbert, Ariz., and Clayton (Laura) Edgcomb of Sycamore; four grandchildren, Scott Edgcomb, Stephen Edgcomb, Michelle Edgcomb and Kara Roe; two great-grandchildren, Alex Edgcomb and Cameron Roe. He was preceded in death by his wife on March 23, 2007; and four brothers. Memorials may be directed to St. Margaret's Hospice.
