Raymond J. Motter, 82, of Mendota, passed away November 8, 2022 in his home with his family by his side.

Funeral services will be Monday, November 14, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, LaMoille with Rev. Ian Griffith officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held Sunday from 2-5 p.m. at the Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota. Additional visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral at church.

Raymond was born October 24, 1940 in Peru to Harold and Loretta (Noel) Motter. He married Carolyn Stamberger on July 7, 1962 at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Ray grew up in Mendota and attended Mendota High School where he graduated in 1959. He enjoyed playing football during his high school years. After graduation he was employed at Elsesser and Schmidt Builders as a carpenter. He then went on to form a partnership with Dean Lewis. Later he and Rich Becker became Becker and Motter Contracting. He retired in 2012. His craftsmanship is found in many area homes. Ray was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, LaMoille where he served on the church council and was a Sunday school treasurer. He enjoyed doing dishes at many church events. He loved old cars, especially his Model A's and enjoyed going to the Iola car show each year. You could always find him working in his vegetable garden and sharing his harvest with many. Twice his garden was awarded garden of the month by the Mendota Garden Club. He always looked forward to making maple syrup with his son and granddaughters. He loved to spend time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Ray enjoyed dancing with anyone who could cut a rug with him. He and the love of his life Carolyn recently celebrated 60 years of marriage together. Ray cherished spending time with his family and will be missed greatly.

He is survived by his wife Carolyn of Mendota; his daughter Christine (Don) Liesse of Dimmick and his son Matthew (Leslie) Motter of LaMoille; seven grandchildren Janelle (Nathan) Ultch, Kyle (Katherine) Rod, Devon (Oscar) Sanchez, Lauren Motter, Cara Motter, Collette Motter and Brooke Motter; four great grandchildren Ali Sanchez, Olivia Ultch, Ava Ultch and Emma Ultch and another due in January; two sisters in law, Annette Stamberger and Chere Motter and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Bill Motter, his sister Sharon Edgcomb and his grandson Eric Rod.
