Richard Lee Cooper, 60, of Illinois Veterans Home in La Salle died Feb. 12, 2010, in the home. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Mendota Bible Church with the Rev. Norm Stark officiating. Burial will be at Wisner Cemetery, Ophir Township, with military rites by Mendota VFW Council 4079. Visitation is 4-7 p.m. today in the church. Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota, provided arrangements. He was born Feb. 10, 1951, in Mendota to Leo and Harriet (Hoffert) Cooper. He married Marsha Cantrell on Nov. 28, 1979, in Mendota. He served with the U.S. Army during Vietnam. He was a press operator for Motor Wheel in Mendota and a member of VFW Post 4079 and Elks Lodge 1212. He is survived by his wife; one son, Richard C. (Tracy) Cooper of LaMoille; three daughters, Dana (Art) Kert of New Hall, Calif., Holly Ann (Sam) Heiting of Mendota and Tiffany Cooper of Mendota; six grandchildren; his mother, Harriet Cooper of Arlington; one half brother, Robert Rhodes of Paw Paw; and one sister, Harriet Simmons of Florida. He was preceded in death by his father in 2009 and three sons. Memorials may be directed to Junior Diabetic Research Foundation.
