Richard Kane Dempster, 57, of McCordsville, Ind., died Dec. 11, 2007, in his home. Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Mendota, with the Rev. James Kruse officiating. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, Mendota. Visitation is one hour prior to services Friday in Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota. Mr. Dempster was born June 10, 1950, in Streator to Robert W. and Mary (Kane) Dempster. He graduated from Mendota High School and received his bachelor?s degree in accounting from Marquette University. He retired from the U.S. Army as a staff sergeant with 18 years of service. He served the majority of his military career overseas, with significant time spent in Germany. He received numerous citations over the years, one of the most notable as a peacekeeper in Egypt. Since leaving the military service, he worked for the Department of Defense as an auditor. He is survived by his fiancee, Debra Jarvis of McCordsville, Ind.; his mother, Mary Kane Dempster of Mendota; one brother, James (Diana) Dempster of Mequon, Wis.; two sisters, Marcia (Michael) Hogan of Chicago and Jean Dempster of South China, Maine; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert W. Dempster. Memorials may be directed to American Cancer Society.
