Richard D. Scott, 69, of Mendota passed away October 30, 2017 in the Mendota Lutheran Home.

Funeral services will be Saturday at 11:00 a.m., in the Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota with Rev. John Kalebough officiating. Burial will be in Restland Cemetery, Mendota with military rites by Mendota VFW Post 4079. Visitation will be Saturday from 9:30-11:00 a.m., in the funeral home.

Richard was born September 27, 1948 in Mendota to Edward and Wilma (Schmidt) Scott. He married Louise Kalebough November 1, 1969 in Vista, CA.

Richard served in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. He was employed as a grain hauler by Kevin Newell. He was a member of Mendota Elks Lodge 1212. He enjoyed doing carpentry work. He loved working in the yard and around the house and planting flowers.

He is survived by his fiance Gwen Eudy; two sons Matthew (Patti) Scott of Decatur and Richard Scott, Jr. of Mendota; daughter Melissa Mumm of Mendota; four brothers John (Beth) Scott of Gratiot, WI., Paul Scott and Michael (Kay) Scott both of Mendota, and Edward (Andi) Scott of West Brooklyn; two sisters Susan Scott of Princeton and Amy Husband of Rockford; five grandchildren Morgan Mumm, Brett Mumm and Abby Mumm, Ayden Scott and Anna Grace Day-Scott; several cousins and his beloved golden lab Bella.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife in 2011, two sisters Marsha and Wanda and a brother Steve.
