Richard "Rick" Wujek, 67, of Troy Grove passed away peacefully in his home June 27, 2016, after an extended illness.
A Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Sts. Peter and Paul Church, Peterstown, with the Rev. Gregory Jarzombek officiating. Burial will follow at Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Peterstown.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Wednesday in Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota with a rosary at 3 p.m.
Rick was born May 16, 1949, to Sylvester "Duke" and Ann (DeLuga) Wujek in Cicero. He became part of the Frank and Mary Catherine Wujek family in 1958.
Rick married Darlene Collings on June 17, 1981. He was a 1967 graduate of Mendota High School and a 1972 graduate of Northern Illinois University. He worked for Hulcher Emergency Railroad Service, learned carpentry from Steve Wujek, was employed by AgSpectrum Sales for 15 years and managed his own business since 1972.
He was an avid baseball and White Sox fan, mailing schedules to many of his friends. He was a 4th Degree Knights of Columbus serving as Faithful Captain. He was president of Mendota Museum and Historical Society's Breaking the Prairie Museum, Troy Grove Village Board trustee for 31 years, a member of Mendota Elks Lodge 1212 and a past president of La Salle County Historical Society. He was active in the Teens Encounter Christ and Cursillo retreats in Peterstown.
Rick is survived by his wife, Dar of Troy Grove; one daughter, Michelle (Brad) Piller of Mendota; two sons, Michael (Nicole) Wujek of Troy Grove and Matthew (Lisa) Wujek of Dimmick; one grandson, Kohen Piller; one granddaughter, Lauren Wujek; Mary Catherine Wujek; five brothers, Andy (Sue) Wujek, Mark (Deb) Wujek, Dan (Katie) Wujek, Paul (Mary Beth) Wujek and Tom (Carrie) Wujek; three sisters, Mary Jo (Jim) Myers, Rose (Gary) Rose and Anita (Frank) Kobilsek and many nieces and nephews.
Rick was preceded in death by his parents, and Frank Wujek and Leo Wujek.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Breaking Prairie Museum Barn, Troy Grove Fire Department or to the donor's choice.
