Rick "Amos" Bell, 66, of Mendota died March 22nd in St. Anthony's Medical Center in Rockford. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11:00a.m., in Holy Cross Church with Deacon Ray Fischer officiating. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery with military honors by Mendota VFW Council 4079. Visitation will be Monday from 4-7p.m., in the Merritt Funeral Home.
Rick was born July 21, 1949 in Mendota to Harold and Beulah (Earle) Bell. He married Diane Didier November 22, 1969 in Holy Cross Church, Mendota.
Rick was a welder for Caterpillar for 40 years before retiring. He served in the Army during the Vietnam War. He was a member of VFW Post 4079, Mendota Golf Course, Mendota Elks Lodge 1212 and Mendota Moose Lodge. He was a volunteer for Mendota Area Senior Services and used to coach for Mendota Junior Tackle and Mendota Little League. He was an avid sports fan.
He is survived by his wife Diane of Mendota; two sons Mike (Susan) Zeter of Oregon, WI. and Ryan (Rose) Bell of Oglesby; daughter Danyelle (Paul) Higgerson of Oglesby; two sisters Karen (Richard) Saylor and Cherie (Richard) Duke both of Mendota; three grandchildren Nathan, Sarah and Sydney; and two great grandchildren Jack and Bennett.
He was preceded by his parents.
