Obituary

Robert Apodaca, 83, of Rochelle, formerly of Mendota, died July 7, 2014 at Rochelle Rehab. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, July 11 at Holy Cross Church, Mendota with Rev. Bowen Schmitt officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Aurora with military rites. Visitation will be from 5-7p.m. on Thursday, July 10 at the Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota.
Robert was born Feb. 25, 1931 in El Paso, Texas to Hipolito M. and Lazara (Davila) Apodaca. Survivors include one daughter, Laura Reinert of Rochelle; two sons, Robert and John Apodaca, both of Aurora; two grandchildren; one great grandson; one sister, Rosemary Comstock of Sycamore; and one brother, Joseph Apodaca of Earlville.
He was preceded by one son, Larry; and two grandchildren, Annette Boyle and Richard Boyle. Robert served with the. U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was employed as a machinist in Aurora and later as a janitor at Our Lady of Good Council Church, also in Aurora. He was a member of Holy Cross Church, Mendota.
