Robert Simpson, 86, of Mendota died March 18, 2009, in Rockford Memorial Hospital. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Zion United Methodist Church, Mendota, with the Rev. Gale Brandner officiating. Burial will be at Restland Cemetery, Mendota. Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Friday in Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota. Mr. Simpson was born March 31, 1922, in Paw Paw to Robert E. and Ada (Towne) Simpson. He married Zelma Williamson on May 23, 1942, in Mendota. He attended Paw Paw High School. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Mendota Elks Lodge 1212, Mendota Moose Lodge and a former member of Paw Paw Duck Club. He was employed by Conco Inc. in Mendota in their crane manufacturing department for more than 45 years. He is survived by his wife, Zelma of Mendota; one daughter, Judy (Delbert) Gehrke of Iowa City, Iowa; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one brother, Donald (Irene) Simpson of LaMoille; four sisters, Betty Rogers of Mendota, Esther (Jim) Kettleborough of Orange City, Fla., Cynthia (Don) Donna of Cherry and Louise Ambler of Meriden; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three brothers and six sisters. Memorials may be directed to Mendota Area Senior Services or First United Methodist Church.
