Robert (Bob) G. Sweger, 91, of Mendota, died April 26, 2017 in Illinois Veteran's Home at LaSalle.

Funeral services will be at Faith Bible Fellowship Church in Troy Grove on Wednesday at 11:00a.m., with Rev. Bill Ultch officiating. Burial will be in Troy Grove Cemetery with military rites by Mendota VFW Post 4079. Visitation is at church one hour prior to services.

Bob was born February 1, 1926 in rural Troy Grove to Albert and Lavinia Sweger. He married Nila Campeggio on May 15, 1965.

He attended Mendota High School. He served in the US Army as a MP in India from 1944-1946 and retired from Del Monte after 35 years. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, woodworker and gardener. He loved playing bingo and euchre with his friends at Stonecroft. He volunteered for many years at Nightingale's Closet, and was a member of Faith Bible Fellowship Church.

Survivors are his son, Randy (Crystal) Sweger of Mendota; stepson Mike (Barb) Campeggio of South Carolina; stepdaughter Chris (Bill) Beetz of Mendota; 12 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Shirley Near of Wisconsin.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Nila in 2011, brother Clarence Sweger, sister Jean Sweger and stepbrothers Bill and Stanley Smith.
