Roland O. Becker, 94, of Mendota died March 23, 2014, in Illinois Valley Community Hospital, Peru. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Holy Cross Church, Mendota with the Rev. Fredi Gomez- Torres officiating. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, Mendota, with military rites by Mendota VFW Council 4079. Visitation is 9-10 a.m. Wednesday in Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota. He was born Jan. 14, 1920, in Sublette to George and Malinda (Stephenitch) Becker. He married Edith Smith on May 20, 1944, in Philadelphia, Pa. He graduated from the University of Illinois and served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of Holy Cross Church, Mendota Golf Club and a 50-year member of Elks Lodge 1212. He was a farmer and worked at Fasco for 25 years as a nutritionist. He also worked as a real estate broker. He is survived by his wife; three sons, Craig Becker of Savanna, Stephen (Deborah) Becker of Peru and Kevin (Sherrie) Becker of Quincy; five grandchildren; five greatgrandchildren; and one sister, LaVerne (Cecil) Byrd of Michigan. He was preceded in death by one brother, Vernon; and one sister, Irene. Memorials may be directed to Holy Cross Church.
