Montavon

Ronald Louis Montavon, 82, of Mendota died on September 20, 2018 in his home.
Mass of Christian burial will be held October 1 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Cross Church, Mendota with Rev. Gregory Jarzombek officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, West Brooklyn. Visitation will be from 9:00 - 10:30 a.m. Monday in the Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota.
Ronald was born in Sublette on February 9, 1936, son of the late Frederick and Dorothy (Hoerner) Montavon. He was married to Ruth A. Engels for 55 years on August 17, 1963.
Ronald (Ronnie) spent the first part of his life as a farmer in West Brooklyn. He ran the family dairy business after his father passed away and was a crop farmer. In the early 80's he decided it was time for a career change and moved to Minnesota where he became a carpenter and began a home construction business. Ronnie then moved on to supervising the construction of Senior Housing projects in several states. Ronnie finally hung up his working hat and he and Ruth retired to Florida. Most recently they relocated back to Mendota.
Ronnie loved fishing and always had a story to tell about his fishing trips to Canada and Minnesota. He had a great sense of humor and was quite the jokester. He enjoyed spending time visiting with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He will be remembered for his love for home cooked food, sweets, dancing, cards, and his contagious smile. Ronnie was a talker and enjoyed speaking to anyone. Most of all he loved his family to the end.
Survivors include his wife Ruth of Mendota; three sons Larry and (Marlina) Montavon of Arizona, Mark and (Nancy) Montavon of Amboy, Douglas and (Rhonda Linn) Montavon of Wisconsin; daughter Cindy (Bryan) Lestico of New Hampshire; ten grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren; three brothers Robert (Lavonne) Montavon Dennis and (Tracey) Montavon Kevin and (Debbie) Montavon and sister Kay (Bob) Colemane.
He was preceded by his son Garry and his daughter Rhonda Roxann.
Memorials may be directed to the family for a memorial to be established.
