Obituary

Ronald L.
Sampo, 80, of
LaMoille died Jan. 29, 2013,
in his residence. Mass of
Christian burial will be at
10:30 a.m. Saturday in St.
Patrick's Church, Arlington
with the Rev. Patrick Fixsen
officiating. Burial will be at
Union Cemetery, LaMoille
Township with military rites
by VFW Post 4079.
Visitation is 4-7 p.m.
Friday at Merritt Funeral
Home, Mendota.
Mr. Sampo was born April
12, 1932, in Toulon to Barto
"Butch and Winifred (Brain)
Sampo. He married Carol
Fundell on Dec. 26, 1953, in
Cherry.
He graduated from
LaMoille High School in
1950 and
attended
American
Institute
of Technology ,
earning
his degree
in electrical
engineering.
He was
chief engineer
at Electrical Utilities
Co. in La Salle and in 1980
was co-founder of Ronken
Industries in Spring Valley
where he served as president
of the company until retiring
in 1998.
Ron served in the U.S.
Air Force during the Korean
War from December 1952 to
August 1953. He was a member
of St. Patrick's Church,
Arlington and Mendota VFW
Post 4079. He was a longtime
member of the Mendota Golf
Club and enjoyed golfing and
spending time with family
and friends.
He is survived by his wife;
two daughters, Debra King of
Mendota and Donna Clinton
of LaMoille; five grandchildren,
Heather Dober of Van
Orin, Casey (Ramon) Torres
of La Salle, Matthew King of
La Salle, Douglas Sampo of
Arizona and Steven Clinton
of LaMoille; and three greatgrandchildren,
Adam and
Logan Dober and Avery
Torres.
He was preceded in death
by his parents and one son,
Dennis Sampo in 2006.
