Sam L. Murdock, 95, of Mendota Lutheran Home died Dec. 18, 2009, in the home. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Michael Morrell officiating. Burial will be at Maple Hills Cemetery, Kirksville, Mo. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Monday at Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota. Mr. Murdock was born Oct. 11, 1914, in Lancaster, Mo., to John and Marietta (Casteel) Murdock. He married Maxine Green on Aug. 2, 1941, in Kirksville. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He received a master's degree from Northeast Missouri State Teachers College and taught math and driver's education at Mendota High School for 20 years. He was a member of Elks Lodge 1212, Mendota Golf Club, First United Methodist Church and a past Masonic member. He is survived by one son, David (Mary Beth) Murdock of Bloomingdale; three grandchildren; one great-grandson; two brothers, Harold Murdock of Arizona and Olen Murdock of Florida; one sister, Margie of Texas; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife on Sept. 28, 2009, two brothers and one sister. Memorials may be directed to Mendota Lutheran Home.
