Sherry L Volkert, 71, of Mendota, passed away Friday, September 3, 2021 at Heritage Health. Mendota.

Sherry was born on January 20, 1950 in Dodge City, Kansas to Howard and Donna (Taylor) Demoret. Sherry married Russ Volkert on October 31, 1970 in St. John's Lutheran Church, Mendota where she was a member. Last year they celebrated 50 years of marriage. She graduated from Mendota Township High School in 1968.

Funeral services will be Thursday, September 9, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at the Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota with Rev. David Jungnickel officiating. Burial will be at Restland Cemetery, Mendota. Visitation will be Wednesday, September 8, 2021 from 5-7 p.m. at the Merritt Funeral Home.

Sherry will be remembered as a caring and thoughtful person. She always put everyone's wishes ahead of her own desires.  Nothing meant more to Sherry than her family, especially her grandchildren who meant the world to her; they were her everything.  She did her best to attend any event in which her grandchildren were participating.  It was no secret the deep love Sherry had for her husband Russ.

After raising her children, Sherry became a Real Estate Agent for the Town & Country Agency.  She was also a warm weather fan; the hotter the better.  She and Russ made many memories while boating with their family and on numerous family vacations. Holidays and birthdays were especially important to Sherry.  She insisted on hosting these special events in her home, which was her happy place.

Sherry is survived by parents; her husband, Russ; her son Tim (Penny) Volkert; her daughters Kelly Gomez and Kim (Dan) Truckenbrod; her 11 grandchildren Luke Volkert, Alexis and Aidan Gomez, Lexi, Libbie, Knowlton and Gabe Wamhoff and Anthony, Quinton, Kylynn and Amelia Truckenbrod and one great grandson Landry Jilderda.

She was preceded in death by her granddaughter Lauren Volkert.

Memorials may be directed to the family for a memorial to be established in Sherry's honor.
