Shirley M. Furar, 82, of Compton died Oct. 12, 2014, in
St. Margaret's Hospital, Spring Valley.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in
St. Mary's Catholic Church, West Brooklyn. Burial will be
at Melugin Cemetery, Brooklyn Township.
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Friday at Merritt Funeral
Home, Mendota.
She was born Sept. 9, 1932, in Spring Valley to Edward
and Evelyn (Grothen) Blanchard. She married Frank Furar
on Dec. 1, 1951, in Spring Valley.
She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.
She was a newspaper reporter for various area newspapers
for many years.
She loved to collect antiques and with her husband
owned and operated Furar's Antiques in Compton.
She loved camping, boating and vacationing in northern
Wisconsin. She was an avid Chicago Bulls fan and loved
her dog "Hans."
She is survived by one daughter, Jerene Furar of Compton;
three sons, David (Melissa) Furar of Mendota, Darrell
(Kristen) Furar of Compton and Paul (Lynn) Furar of
LaMoille; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband on Feb. 6,
2009; one son, Dale; one daughter, Deanna; one grandson,
Brandon Furar; and two children in infancy.
