Obituary

Stuart H. Althaus, 95, of Mendota died May 7, 2011, in his residence. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Community United Methodist Church of LaMoille with the Rev. Sangmyung Park officiating. Burial will be at Restland Cemetery, Mendota. Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota. Mr. Althaus was born July 18, 1915, in Sublette to Henry and Elizabeth (Schwingle) Althaus. He married Etta Hopps on Dec. 10, 1941, in Perkins Grove Methodist Church. He was a graduate of LaMoille High School. He was a member of Community United Methodist Church of LaMoille. He was a lifetime farmer in the LaMoille and Mendota area and was employed for a number of years by Rapp Implement and Fischer & Phalen Service Station in Mendota. He is survived by one son, Keith Althaus of Mendota; three daughters, Vicki (Bernie) Engels of West Brooklyn, Kaye Lindberg of Champion, Mich., and Debra (Peter) Drypolcher of Zambia; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Bernice Swanlund of California. He was preceded in death by his wife, Etta, on Aug. 28, 2000, one sister and one granddaughter. Memorials may be directed to Stuart Althaus Family Trust to be utilized for Debra and Peter Drypolcher's mission work.
