Theresa Mae Myers, 88, of Mendota, passed away January 28, 2023 at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center, Rockford.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, February 6, 2023 at 10:30 am. at Holy Cross Church, Mendota with Father Peter Pilon officiating. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Mendota. Visitation will be Sunday from 4-7 p.m. at the Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota with a 3:15 p.m. Rosary.
Theresa was born October 14, 1934 in Mendota to Adam and Dorothy (Jones ) Auchstetter. She married Richard (Dick) Myers on August 18, 1956, at Holy Cross Church in Mendota.
Theresa grew up on the family farm in Henkel, Illinois, and attended Beetz's Country School until it closed when she was in 3rd grade. She then went to Holy Cross School and Mendota High School. After graduation, Theresa went to St. Anthony De Padua Hospital School of Nursing in Chicago where she earned her RN degree.
Theresa worked in Chicago at St. Anthony's Hospital and then at Mendota Community Hospital until the birth of her 1st son John. She stayed at home raising her seven children until her youngest Pat started kindergarten. Theresa then started working at Sunrise Nursing Home which later became Heritage Manor until her retirement.
Theresa was a member of Holy Cross Church and the Altar Society. She loved to crochet and garden, go asparagus picking, do puzzles that her children and grandchildren found that were near impossible to finish, make any and all kinds of crafts to give to her family at Christmas, watch the kids play ball from her porch (and get dinner or a snack from the concessions), and travelling to see her kids, grandkids and great-grandkids.
Theresa is survived by her beloved cat, Peaches; seven children, John (Dawn) Myers, Joe (Shawn) Myers, Cathy (Mike) Zinke of Lenexa, KS, Suzy (Roger) Greathouse of Oklahoma City, OK, Peggy (Jim) Halbmaier, Andy (Michelle Meyer) Myers and Pat (Rhonda) Myers; fourteen grandchildren, Jacki (Brad) Wellik, Mandy (Mike) Twardowski, Jerrica (Jayse) Barnes, Carrie (Aaron) Roe, Cory (Taylor) Myers, Duane (Laura) Zinke, Brian (Madelyn Voelker) Zinke, Sam (Sarah) Halbmaier, Randi (Jason McCormick) Halbmaier, Kady (Jared Fritz) Halbmaier, Austin (Amanda Peters) Myers, Aubrey Myers, Hailey Myers and Madison (Michael Fairweather) Myers; eight great-grandchildren, Harrison Wellik, Ryder and Robyn Roe, Henry and Eleanor Myers, Olivia and Brantley Zinke, and Reese Halbmaier; and her sister-in-law, Lynda Auchstetter.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dick in 2007, her brother Donald Auchstetter who died at birth, her sister, Joann Burke and her brother, Robert Auchstetter.
