Thomas C. Grothen, 52, of Lostant died Feb. 23, 2013, in Heritage
Health, Peru.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Zion Lutheran Church of
Clarion Township with the Rev. Kevin Weeks officiating. Burial will
be at Clarion Lutheran Cemetery, Clarion Township.
Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota.
Mr. Grothen was born Feb. 20, 1961, in Mendota to Clarence and
Carolyn (Reppin) Grothen.
He was a graduate of Mendota High School and was employed as
a chef at Bullheads in Lostant, a restaurant owned by his mother. He
also drove a school bus for Lostant school system and was employed
by Hope Township in the maintenance department. He also helped
William Jaegle in his farming operation. He was a member of Zion
Lutheran Church of Clarion Township.
He is survived by two daughters, Emilie Grothen of Spring Valley
and Erica Grothen of Peru; one granddaughter; his mother, Carolyn
Grothen Hetrick of Lostant; one brother, Hank (Christine) Grothen of
Mendota; and two sisters, Brenda (David) O'Donnell of Ottawa and
Julie (Mark) Schmidt of Mendota.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Memorials may be directed to Illinois Veterans Home in La Salle
or St. Margaret's Hospice.
