Velma M. Clement, 93, of Waltham Township, rural Utica, died July 5, 2009, in Mendota Lutheran Home. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Waltham Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Frank Fisher officiating. Burial will be at Waltham Cemetery. Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Tuesday in Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota. She was born Oct. 5, 1915, in Ophir Township to John and Emma (Hessenberger) Kidd. She married Earl Clement on Sept. 10, 1936, in Waltham Township. Mrs. Clement was a member of Waltham Presbyterian Church, La Salle County Farm Bureau, Waltham Grange and Eastern Star. She was a 4-H leader for many years and was designated as Homemaker of the Year by La Salle County Extension. She is survived by one son, Keith (Carol) Clement of Alpha; three daughters, Carol Shaver of rural Utica, Phyllis Radcliff of Ottawa and Joanne (Kenneth) Hulmes of DeKalb; nine grandchildren, Lennis (Karen) Clement of Blue Earth, Minn., Deborah (Brian) Applegate of Shelbyville, Scott (Margaret) Clement of Normal, Mandy (Stephen) Tomaseski of rural Utica, Vaughn (Sally) Kiner of Mendota, Kelly (Corey) Setters of Marseilles, Steven (Melanie) Hulmes of Lee, Carrie (Dennis) Niles of Earlville and Brett Hulmes of DeKalb; 13 great-grandchildren and three stepgreatgrandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband on Feb. 22, 1989; two brothers, Frank and Warren Kidd; one sister, Ida Kidd; two sonsin- law, Richard Shaver and Frank Radcliff; one granddaughter, Kimberly Plique; and three great-grandchildren. Memorials may be directed to Waltham Presbyterian Church or Mendota Lutheran Home.
