Veronica A. Dickey, 101, resident of Mendota Lutheran Home, passed away Jan. 19, 2017, in the home. A private memorial service will be at a later date. Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota is assisting the family.
Veronica, better known as "Ronnie," was born Feb. 11, 1915, in Chicago to Charles and Mary (Walkowiak) Drager. She married Earl Dickey on May 25, 1935, in Chicago, and relocated to Mendota in late 1930s. As a devout Catholic, she was a member of Holy Cross Church and the Altar Society all the years she lived in Mendota. One of her favorite pastimes was playing cards with the Jolly 8 Club that met for over 50 years, quilting with the ladies at the Baptist Church, going to Mendota Area Senior Services activities, and traveling. The family ran several businesses, including Wayside Café and Country Delight Milk Delivery.
She is survived by two sons, Bill (Brenda) Dickey of Somonauk and Michael Dickey of Mendota; special daughter-in-law, Jeri Dickey Atherton of Mendota; grandchildren include Bill (Lori) Dickey, Paula (Lari) Gibson, Sonya Walter, Sheila Hadley, Trisha Feldman, Chad (Lisa) Dickey, Erin (Jeff) Strouss, Melinda (Scott) Lasky; special grandson Steffan (Tiffany) Knapp; 21 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by seven brothers, her husband in 1997, and her son, Thomas E. Dickey in 2014.
