Vickie Lynn Shankles, 55, of Mendota, Illinois passed away Tuesday afternoon in her home, after fighting a long battle with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS).

She faced her diagnosis with bravery and strength, tackling each obstacle as it came along. She has been an inspiration to those around her and has shown us that even when facing the darkest situations, there is always a way to see the light.

Vickie's family has always been her top priority. Vickie is married to Rick Shankles of Mendota. They have three children and one grandchild. Daughter Amanda Schwartz, her husband Sean and daughter Ainslie of Peoria, IL, son Richard and wife Sandy Shankles of La Salle, IL. and son Cameron Shankles of Mendota.

She is also survived by her parents Dale and Jenny Shaffer of Oreana, IL and brother Jeff Shaffer of Oreana, IL, niece Hailey Thompson, her husband Matt Thompson and daughter Natalie Thomspon of Warrensburg, IL.

A service for Vickie will be held at a later date.
