Obituary

Victor J. Wedemeyer, 88, of Mendota died April 22, 2012, in Mendota Lutheran Home. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in St. John's Lutheran Church with the Rev. Dale Peterson officiating. Burial will be at Lutheran Cemetery, Mendota. Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Friday in Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota. Mr. Wedemeyer was born April 8, 1924, in Sheboygan, Wis., to William and Hilda (Froehlich) Wedemeyer. He married Ruth Dobberpuhl on June 25, 1949, in Milwaukee, Wis. He received his undergraduate and masters' degrees from University of Wisconsin-Madison and was an art teacher at Mendota High School for 32 years. He also taught in local elementary schools. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church where he was a member of the choir and a former member of the Illinois Valley Symphony and University of Wisconsin- Madison marching band. He was a member of Elks Lodge 1212 and Kiwanis Club and was a former Boy Scout and Cub Scout leader. He served as township assessor for 12 years. He is survived by his wife, Ruth of Mendota; three sons, David (Irene) Wedemeyer of Elgin, Daniel (Mary) Wedemeyer of Rockford, and Stephen (Nancy) Wedemeyer of St. Charles; two daughters, Elizabeth (Larry) Rohlfes of Rocklin, Calif. and Martha (Craig) Faron of Romeoville; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one sister. Memorials may be directed to St. John's Lutheran Church, Mendota Lutheran Home or Wisconsin Lutheran Chapel at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
